Another TechMeme Clone December 18, 2007

ePlatform came out with a Techmeme clone.  I found this from Dan Farber, who always has the great stories.  I’ve been following Gabe’s work for years and ePlatform doesn’t come close in my opinion.  Gabe has been shaping his algorithm for years including not only link analysis (graph theory) but adding things like comments as weight.  Techmeme is still my favorite and will be til I can see more clustering of good content.  My only beef with Techmeme is that some of the stories are ‘overchewed’ meaning redundant posts by different authors.  I’m sure Gabe is working on that.

Here is some points from Dan:

The rankings and clustering of content are also based on inbound links. The ePlatform search engine employs keyword scoring based on article content to find related articles.

Dan gets at the core issue around ePlatform’s business model.  It appears that their meme site is a ’stalking horse’ for their business platform.  Not sure the consumer focus is what is driving ePlatform.  This could bring up the classic focus issue.  In a era of too many opportunities they should spin out the meme site as a separate company.

Here is a link to ePlatform’s site.
